　　If you have enough time, the best way to learn about a city is to explore the streets and alleys yourself on foot or by bike. Before setting off, I would usually get a guidebook or do a lot of research online, studying the maps, browsing comments and journals about the city from experienced backpackers. Some of the tips are really insightful and can save tons of time and quite some money as well, for instance, always avoid restaurants teaming with expats and follow the locals for the most authentic and fairly-priced food. It makes a lot of sense. Sometimes, A well-intended surprise visit may also end up with embarrassment.
